Canker Sores - Aphthous Stomatitis
Inflammation of the oral mucosa due to local or systemic factors which may involve the buccal and labial mucosa, palate, tongue, floor of the mouth, and the gingivae.
Nutrients Involved
Folic acid, vitamin B12, iron, zinc, Lactobacillus acidophilus.
Contributing Factors
- Food sensitivities, especially gluten
- Sodium lauryl sulfate sensitivity: When individuals with canker sores changed to a tooth paste that did not contain sodium lauryl sulfate, the number of aphthous ulcers fell by 64%.
Suggested Nutritional Supplementation
- L-Lysine - 2 capsules 4 times daily between meals w/ juice at earliest sign of outbreak.
